McKenzie’s Laser Cut Green Screen Props

Green Screen Movie Making!

Students in every grade benefit from creative self-expression and play. Giving students opportunities to do this type of work–to illustrate their understanding of a moment in history, a theme in a book, or simply as a means of expression–creates connections and makes learning fun.

If you are new to green screen movie making, don’t fret–it couldn’t be easier. Just hang a piece of green fabric or green paper behind your subject and imagine you are in another world. There are lots of programs to help you edit your videos and create your other worlds. Here are just a few.

There are so many ways to use these props (and any others you and your students might create) in the classroom. We invite you to use this as a starting point because, as is so often the case, our students’ imaginations can far exceed our own. Students can create their own green screen props through programs such as Vectr or Canva

Curriculum Integration Ideas

  • Book group
Students create and laser cut props or items from a book they are reading and then use a green screen to act out a scene.
  • Moments in history
Students create and laser cut inventions, artifacts, or landmarks and film a green screen scene.
  • Commercials
Students use the design thinking process to create a solution to a problem, then create a 2D prototype that they laser cut and use in their green screen commercial
  • Math concepts
Students create items and then use them to explain concepts in math–from basic addition to the Fibonacci sequence
