The following core values are the foundation of BitSpace, and they guide everything we do and how we do it. We learn them and we live them. Whether you’re an employee, a teacher, or a student, our core values will permeate your experience with our company.
We See Opportunities, Not Problems
What better way to demonstrate this than in our work with students? This is how we want them to see the world, and we approach our own work with a sense of possibility and positivity. We are “all in” on transforming education, which means we take the initiative to make change happen. We don’t believe in always waiting for directions, whether that refers to our internal team (whose out-of-the-box thinking is invaluable) or our students, who we encourage to be bold in their thinking.
We Champion Equity
In order for real change to happen in the field of education, educators and students at all socio-economic levels must be able to harness our services in one way or another. This is why we take what happens in our innovation labs (the maker spaces) and transform the lessons learned (something we call the “genius”) into online pd that can be accessed from anywhere at an affordable price. Equity is equally relevant internally. It means that we are fair and extend the most generous interpretation possible to the intentions, words, and actions of others. We offer one another total respect.
We Are Courageous
It takes courage to make real change happen, and we embrace it in all its forms. We have the courage to speak up, and we allow others to do so equally. And we have the courage to make mistakes, and to allow others to do the same. We take responsibility for our energy and our actions and we act with integrity, even when it’s hard.
We Are Curious
We are never done asking questions, learning, and taking risks. We know that in order to stay innovative we need to stay curious, while always choosing iteration and progress over being “right” or “perfect.” Likewise, we are driven by our desire to nurture curiosity in children, while supporting teachers to be curious too.
We Collaborate
We know the sum is greater than the parts when it comes to what we do, and we embrace the “hive” mind. This is true of how we collaborate with teachers, how we work with one another internally, and it’s why we are building a community of like-minded educators online. Collaboration is also a value we work hard to foster in our students, because by collaborating we leverage each other’s strengths and hold each other accountable to higher standards.
